Quick Answers

Some questions reach our inbox again and again. Rather than answer each one separately, we have gathered the most common here. If yours is not covered, the Talk to Us page explains how to reach us.

About the magazine

What is Black Winter Day?

An independent entertainment and home-life magazine. We write about films and television, music, dance, games, home projects, gardens and the gatherings that bring people together. The aim is simple: help you enjoy your evenings, weekends and home a little more.

Who writes the articles?

A small team of enthusiasts writing under pen names, led by our editor. You can meet her on About Me and read about the rest of the team on Behind the Curtain.

Are you experts?

No, and we do not pretend to be. We are hobbyists who research carefully and test ideas at home where we can. For anything involving health, money, legal questions or risky building work, please speak to a qualified professional.

Why do some older articles feel different?

The magazine has been around for a while, and some pieces date from earlier years. We are reviewing the archive gradually, refreshing what needs it and keeping the rest as it was.

Reading and using the site

I have just found you. Which article comes first?

Pick the corner you enjoy most. Film fans might begin with our indie film recommendations. If you would rather get your hands dirty, try growing herbs indoors. Music lovers often start with the playlist guide.

Can I share or quote your articles?

Yes, sharing links is always welcome, and short quotes with a credit and link back are fine. Please do not copy whole articles. The details are in Legal Terms.

Do you have a newsletter or an app?

Not at the moment. The site is the best place to find new articles.

Getting in touch

How do I suggest a topic?

Email us with your idea and a sentence or two about why it would help other readers. Many of our guides started this way.

I found a mistake. What should I do?

Tell us which article it is and what looks wrong. We check every correction and update the piece if needed.

Can you help with my streaming account or TV box?

Unfortunately not. We have no access to any provider's systems, so billing, log-in and technical faults need to go to the provider's own support team.

Do you accept paid placements?

Our approach to brand mentions is explained in How We Choose What We Recommend.

Privacy

Do you track me?
