Your Privacy

Black Winter Day is a small, independent entertainment and home-life magazine. We built it to collect as little about you as possible. This page sets out, in plain words, what little information is involved when you read the site or write to us, and what you can ask us to do with it.

Last updated: October 2026

Who is responsible

The magazine is run by its editorial team, who decide how the small amount of data described here is handled. Any privacy question can be sent to desk@blackwinterday.org.

A static site with nothing watching

Each article and page is generated ahead of time and served as finished HTML. There are no user accounts, no comment boxes, no shopping basket and no login. We do not use analytics tools, advertising networks, social media pixels, fingerprinting or any other tracking technology. We do not build profiles of readers, and we do not sell, rent or trade information about anyone.

Your cookie-banner choice

The first time you visit, a short notice asks whether you are happy to continue. When you click a button, your browser remembers that answer in its local storage so the notice does not reappear on every page. That single entry contains only your yes-or-no choice. It never leaves your device, is not sent to us and cannot identify you. You can remove it at any time by clearing site data in your browser settings. Our About Cookies page has more detail.

Hosting logs

To deliver pages, our hosting provider's servers automatically handle technical information that every browser sends with a request, such as the IP address, the time, the page requested, the browser type and any error that occurred. The provider may keep these logs for a short period for security, abuse prevention and keeping the service reliable. We do not combine these logs with other data or use them to identify readers. We rely on legitimate interest here: keeping a small magazine online, stable and protected from misuse.

When you email us

A message to the desk reaches us with your address, any name you sign with and the words you wrote. We use that only to read and reply to your message. The contact form on our Talk to Us page does not send anything by itself; it simply opens your own email program with a message ready to go, so nothing is stored on the site.

We keep correspondence only as long as it is useful for the conversation, and we delete older messages periodically. We will never add you to a mailing list without asking.

Links within articles

Plenty of our articles point to outside pages. Once you click through, that website's own privacy practices apply, and we have no control over them. It is worth checking their policy before sharing personal details there.

Your rights

If you live in the European Union, the United Kingdom or another place with similar rules, data protection law such as the GDPR gives you rights over your personal data. These include the right to:

  • ask whether we hold any information about you and receive a copy;
  • have inaccurate information corrected;
  • have your information erased;
  • restrict or object to how it is used;
  • receive your data in a portable format where that applies;
  • complain to your local data protection authority.

In practice, the only personal data we are likely to hold is an email you sent us. Email the desk with your request and we will deal with it inside the legal deadline.

Children

The magazine is written for a general audience and does not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has emailed us personal details, let us know and we will delete them.

Changes to this page

If our practices change, for example if we ever add a feature that handles data differently, we will update this page and the date above. For our other house rules, see Legal Terms.
